Cambodian Prime Minister Gives 4 Recommendations to the Ministry of Planning to Help Orient the Work

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, said that the National Strategic Development Plan was an important tool for the implementation of the pentagonal strategy phase one and other policies and agendas of the royal government.

The statement was one of the four recommendations made by Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet at the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Planning, on Tuesday April 9, 2024.

First, the National Strategic Development Plan is an important tool for the implementation of the Pentagon-Phase 1 strategy, as well as other policies and agendas.

Second, instructions during the launching ceremony of "National Report on the final results of the economic census in the Kingdom of Cambodia 2022" on December 26, 2023,  

In his second recommendation, the Prime Minister provided additional guidance to the Ministry of Planning to continue to increase the capacity of its officers on a regular basis to conduct surveys and censuses, especially the ability to produce disaggregated data, which will turn the data into details on a specific, sufficient, timely and quality way to meet the needs of the Royal Government in assessing the current situation.

The third recommendation was that the Ministry has had to do its best to maximize the benefits of demographic and gender dividends and avoid the shortage of labor and the disproportion between the elderly population and the young population in Cambodia after 2050.  Also in the third recommendation, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet asked the Ministry of Planning to consider demographic trends and age structure changes as well as scenarios of social support mechanisms for youth and families, when updating the National Population Policy 2016-2030. 

In the fourth recommendation, the Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Planning to discuss with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the relevant ministries to turn the National School of Planning and Statistics into a public administrative institution in order to strengthen and expand the scope of roles and responsibilities and to be effective in training of civil servants.
