On Tuesday March 11, 2025, H.E Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, met with a delegation from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI) to discuss using Japan’s decades of expertise and experience in industrial management to support sustainable industrial development in Cambodia.

Mr. HAMASAKA Takashi, Director of the Environmental Management Promotion Office of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, highlighted the history of Japan’s rapid industrialization in the 1950s and 1960s, which resulted in significant pollution.

The Japanese government has implemented legal and regulatory measures in close partnership with the private sector to develop pollution control technologies while continuing to promote sustainable industrial development.

He also shared some of Japan's best practices, including the establishment of pollution control units for factories since 1971, and the importance of complying with international sustainability standards for Cambodian industry's participation in global supply chains.
