UNESCO continues to collaborate with Ministry of Education to promote technology development and use of artificial intelligence

UNESCO continues to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to promote technology development and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in learning and teaching to enhance the quality of education.

His Excellency Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, received a courtesy call by UNESCO Cambodia, led by His Excellency Sardar Umar Alam, on Wednesday March 12th 2025 at the Ministry’s Office.

His Excellency Hang Chuon Naron thanked UNESCO for supporting the organization of the first Cambodian Edtech Summit and highly valued the organization’s vision to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Education on the use of technology and artificial intelligence in learning and teaching to enhance the quality of education. The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the Ministry of Education’s vision of using AI to improve the education sector by training teachers on the use of AI to support early math and early reading, on strengthening digital literacy, creating lesson content, and on the strengthening of the implementation of science and technology subjects.He also encouraged UNESCO to support and start strengthening some aspects in the education sector by creating and preparing digital libraries, using technology to further improve the Program for International Student Assessment test, especially in regional studies, and defining a clear framework starting from the use of AI to help support teacher training in Cambodia.

For his part, His Excellency Sardar Umar Alam, Representative of UNESCO, congratulated the success of organizing the first Cambodian EdTech Summit and expressed UNESCO’s interest in continuing its cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports to promote the development of technology and the use of artificial intelligence in the education sector.

He also highlighted UNESCO’s potential to support the education sector with the goal of providing teachers and students with full digital skills and capabilities.
