Her excellency Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chairwoman of the National Committee for Consumer Protection, said that protecting consumer rights is not an individual’s duty, but a common task and interest, because protecting consumers is protecting us all.

At the celebration of World Consumer Rights Day 2025 and the Conference on Consumer Rights under the theme “Transitioning to Sustainable Living” on March 14, the Minister of Commerce expressed her appreciation for the efforts of all relevant working groups for organizing the program to strengthen understanding of consumer rights and obligations, promote the creation of a market with integrity, quality, and diversity of products and services, providing consumers with better choices, which are the main driving forces for socio-economic growth.

The Minister stated that in Cambodia, since the Consumer Protection Law was enacted on November 2, 2019, the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ), has been continuously disseminating laws and regulations to relevant parties, especially the private sector, in capitals and provinces, and has continued its efforts to implement specific mechanisms to protect consumers, including building regulations under the Consumer Protection Law to enhance the protection of consumer rights and interests, promoting fair competition and conducting business together with confidence and collaborating with national and international organizations to develop more effective consumer protection policies. The Minister added that protecting consumer rights is not the duty of any one individual, but a task and a common interest of all of us because protecting consumers is protecting ourselves and as consumers, we have the right to quality and safe products, goods and services.

She also expressed optimism that through the program celebrating World Consumer Rights Day today, all relevant parties will gain more knowledge related to consumer protection and continue to participate in strengthening consumer protection in Cambodia more broadly.
