Cambodia exported more than 12 million tons of crop products in 2024 to 95 countries.
H.E Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries revealed the figure at the opening ceremony of the Cambodia Agricultural Forum and Exhibition and dialogue between actors in the agricultural value chain held in Phnom Penh on April 7, 2025.
The Minister said that Cambodia's agricultural sector has achieved satisfied results, transforming from a food shortage situation to ensuring sufficient food security in the country. He added that Cambodia was able to export millions of tons of agricultural products worth approximately US$5.3 billion, which has significantly contributed to ensuring global food security..
The Minister pointed out that in 2024, the agriculture sector contributed over 16% of the gross domestic product in current prices, with a total Gross Value Added of over $7.00 billion, of which the contribution of the crop sub-sector was over 61%, the livestock production sub-sector over 15%, the fisheries sub-sector 20%, and the forestry sub-sector over 3%.
The government continues to give high priority to the agricultural sector, especially through the introduction of priority policy programs 5 and 6, which include promoting agricultural productivity, marketing, stabilizing agricultural prices, deploying commune agricultural officers, and developing modern agricultural communities to accelerate agricultural development.
According to the Minister, the Cambodian agricultural sector faces a number of challenges, such as the instability of the production system, lack of markets, price instability, and lack of investment in processing. The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries stressed that all relevant actors have been required to participate in in-depth study and joint solutions through the "state-private-development partner-agricultural community" mechanism to promote and accelerate the development of the agricultural sector in Cambodia.
