Secretary-General of ASEAN Attends the Launch of the ASEAN Future Leaders Program and Meet with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Timor-Leste

On April 3, 2024, in Dili, the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, H.E Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN, delivered a key note speech the launch of the Future Leaders Program for ASEAN with the participation of the Prime Minister of Timor-Leste

The Secretary-General of ASEAN highlighted the important role that youth play in shaping the development path and potential of ASEAN. H.E Kao Kim Hourn spoke of the Timor-Leste for initiating this program, which could have a significant impact on the spread and internationalization of the ASEAN identity in East Timor.

Then, on the afternoon of April 3, 2024, H.E Kao Kim Hourn met with Mr. Jorge Manuel de AraújoSerrano, President of the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry and well-known private sector representatives. 

The ASEAN Secretary-General stressed that Timor-Leste's entry into ASEAN will have a positive impact on the Timor-Leste economy as the country will be able to enter the large and profitable ASEAN market.

He also encouraged the private sector to support the Timor-Leste government in its efforts to become a full member of ASEAN.
