Cambodia, Thailand hold 14th bilateral meeting on anti-drug cooperation

Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to do more to jointly take measures to tighten the fight against drugs.

The authorities concerned of the two countries convened its 14th bilateral meeting on anti-drug cooperation in Phnom Penh on Tuesday March 26, 2024.

The meeting was chaired by General Meas Virith, Secretary General of the National Authority for Combating Drugs of Cambodia and Lieutenant General. Phanurat Lukboon, Secretary General of the Thai Drug Control Council.

Speaking at the meeting, General Meas Virith briefed the Thai side on the results of the work and thanked the Government of Thailand and the Thai Drug Control Council for their cooperation and support in almost all areas, especially in the fight against drugs in Cambodia. He said that   the Thai side has helped its Cambodian counterpart in law enforcement, rehabilitation, laboratory work, outreach education on the dangers of drugs and the implementation of a special drug-free village plan.

The 14th meeting continued to discuss the work results in the past and seek new rules and methods in order to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries' anti-drug institutions. In response to the current situation and trends of the drug problem in the region and in both countries and on the establishment of additional planning activities between Cambodia and Thailand.

Based on the results of the 13th bilateral meeting, Lieutenant General Phanurat Lukboon spoke of the good cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand and the remarkable results achieved together in the fight against drugs. Thailand is a victim of cross-border drug trafficking, especially in the northern and northeastern border areas of the Golden Triangle.
